Artist Statement
I paint because it is a method of expression that feels vast and free to me. When I put something on the floor, a piece of canvas or paper, the intimacy of getting down there with it – like you would engage with a child – is such an exciting moment of a dialogue beginning. It is like looking to the future – wide open, so many possibilities, so much opportunity.
Depending on what I am feeling, I will make charcoal marks, paint swirls or scribble with oil pastel crayons. Then I start mixing paints, adding collage, adding or subtracting materials without very much intentional direction. At some point, I need to pause and put the painting on the wall to see from another perspective. A finished painting is an evolutionary process…at some point it says what I subconsciously set out to say.
Biography
Pamela Weber is an abstract painter based in Basalt, CO. working with color, shape and line to explore the concepts of emotion and experience. Her compositions, made up of collage, acrylic paint, oil pastels and charcoal, create a sense of place and invite reflection and engagement.
After a successful career as an interior designer, Weber began exploring her long held desire to create on a different level and began painting in 2024. She quickly transitioned into painting full time.
Her journey has included workshops at Anderson Ranch, hosting a pop-up art gallery, Blink, in Basalt, a yearlong program with the NYC Crit Club Canopy Program and participating in the Valley Visual Arts show. She is looking forward to a summer group show in NYC with the Canopy Gallery and starting her MFA program at the School at The Art Institute of Chicago as well as a group show in Aspen.
